Nex Meeting & Delayed Christmas Party

The next meeting is Jan. 28th.  Several people asked that we do our Christmas party then.  So we will meet at Cafe 37.  We will meet at 6:30 to order our meals.  I realize some folks can't make it that early.  You can still come to the meeting and order when you get there.

Please let me know if you plan on coming so I can give the restraunt an idea of how many people to expect.  Let me know also if you still want to do the gift exchange.

The next Monday night get together will be Jan. 6th.  Please let me know if you plan on coming so I can let you know if we should need to cancel.

My phone number is 417-252-0349. - Beth

Canceling of Christmas Party and December Activities

We are cancelling the Christmas party that was supposed to be this Tuesday (12/11).  It sounds like the weather is supposed to improve over the upcoming weekend, but then turn bad again.  We were supposed to have a Monday night training next week, but it looks like the weather isn't going to cooperate.  So unless the weather changes drastically that is cancelled also.  See you in January.  Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. ~ Beth

Monday, December 2nd - News & Updates

This coming Monday we will be meeting at Risner's Stable in West Plains with the dogs to do obedience and rally.  Please let me know if you will be there.  I'll check my e-mail this evening, otherwise give me a call and leave message.  417-252-0349.  That way if we have to cancel I can give you a call and save you a wasted trip.  If you don't know if I have your phone number, give me a call and I can save it on my phone.  The last time I had to cancel, I was frantically calling my husband to get him to look up numbers and call folks for me.  For those who don't know me well, I work for the Forest Service and can get called at any minute to fight fires.  I may not be where I can get to e-mail or phone book, but I'll do my best to call you and leave a message that it is cancelled. ~ Beth

Our December meeting (Christmas party) is Dec. 10th at Cafe 37.  We will get together at 6:30pm.  If you need to come later that is fine.  We will be voting on officers and board members.  That should be it for business.  If you would like to participate, we do the dirty Santa game for a gift exchange.  Please bring a wrapped gift, $10 suggested value limit.  It doesn't have to be dog related.  If you would like to come but haven't already let me know you are coming, please let me know by Wed so I can give the restraunt a final total. ~ Beth

We are not doing the Christmas parade this year as there are conflicting events for that weekend.~ Beth

We need to get sponsors for the March fun match to help off-set the cost of the civic center.  Plus we will be having a silent auction.  So if you can get businesses to donate money or an item for the auction that would be great.  There will be a sign hung up at the event listing them as a sponsor if they donate money.  Any item donated will have a sign with it saying who donated it. ~ Beth

We will be getting together Monday night at Risner stables starting at 6:30 until about 8. Please let me know if you plan on attending. Call me at 417-252-0349 or send an e-mail. My computer is acting up so the phone may be a safer option. Other dates will be Oct. 7 & 21 I know many of you weren't able to come to the meeting Tuesday night, especially since I didn't get a chance to send a reminder out. These are some things that were discussed that you may be interested in: A Nutro Rep will be at the next meeting to discuss dog nutrition. He won't be pushing his brand, so this won't be a sales push. The conformation/obedience/rally show will be March 22nd at the Civic Center. We are going to check on renting the sports matting from the civic center so we can have matting for all 3 rings. Haunting in the Hollow is Oct. 19th. We need folks to help staff our booth from 1-6. I know many of you will be at the show in Springfield. If you aren't going to be tied up otherwise, I would appreciate it if you can come help for a couple hours. We are going to try to do a better job of advertising our events. So if you know of any publications, radio stations, etc where we can get things advertised within Howell and the surrounding counties or publications like the Kennel Spotlight, please send their contact information to me. We are thinking about putting on a seminar in mid June. We are looking for topics that would be of interest to the general public. Please send in ideas or bring them to the next meeting. We are also considering putting on a fun show with costume class and other similar type classes in late spring. This would just be a fun activity to invite the public and their dogs too. ~Beth

Updated RDO Events & Information Sept. 21

The South Central Missouri Kennel Club will be hosting a Responsible Dog Ownership day and Agility Fun Match on September 21st at the ball field at Mammoth Spring State Park in Mammoth Springs, AR.  The day will start at 1:00 p.m. with Jumpers with Weaves competition.  Classes will be novice, open, and excellent.  Dogs are required to go over a series of jumps, thru weave poles and a tunnel.
Throughout the day dogs of various breeds will be there.  You can meet their owners and learn about the breed.  This is a good opportunity to find out more information about a breed you may be interested in owning.  At 5:00 p.m. a parade of breeds will be held.
Dogs and handlers will be demonstrating K9 Protection, Field/Hunt, Search & Rescue/Tracking, and Carting.  At 5:15 p.m. a relay agility demonstration will start.  This event involves teams of dogs in head-to-head competition going thru a series of weave poles and a tunnel.  At 5:30 p.m. AKC Canine Good Citizen testing will take place.
Admission to the event is free.  The entry fee for the Fun Match is $5.00 per run (up to 4 runs per dog) if mailed by Sept. 10th and $7.00 per run after that date.  Canine Good Citizen testing is available for $10.00.  Information and entry forms are available at www.scmkc.org  under upcoming events.

Labor Day Training at Galloway Park

We will be having our training get together on Monday night (Labor Day) at Galloway Park starting at 6:30. We will be there until around 8. I'm not sure what time it gets dark. So if you can't make it right at 6:30, we'll be there for a while. I'll be bringing the agility equipment so folks can practice for the Fun Match. We will also be offering Canine Good Citizen testing at the Fun Match, so we can practice for that also.

Remember to bring mosquito repellent. I'm not sure if the park has been treated again but mosquitos there can be bad. I don't know of any place that isn't bad this year.Hope to see you there.

Directions to the park: At the traffic light where business 63 meets Hwy 63 meet on the north end of West Plains, you will see the Ford and Toyota Dealerships. There is a road, Girdley, that goes between these businesses. Take this road. You will go under the railroad tracks. At the top of the hill there will be a stop sign. Make a left at the stop sign onto County Road 1770. The park is about 1/2 mile down this road on the left. We will meet in the field in front of the pavillion.
