December 2014 & January 2015 Club Activites

This is what we have planned for the month of Dec.  Even if you are not a club member please feel free to join us in these fun events!

Dec. 6 - Willow Springs Christmas parade - meet at Booster field at 9 am.  Booster field in on business 60/63 on the east end of town.  The parade starts at 10.  We will be walking.  The parade route is about 0.7 miles.  Please feel free to decorate yourself and your dog in its Christmas finest.

Dec. 7 - Informal dog training starting at 1:00 at Galloway Park in West Plains.  Let me know if you are interested in attending.  There may not be any interest with the Willow Springs Christmas parade the previous day.

Dec. 13 - West Plains Christmas parade - meet on Missouri Ave. at 1:00 pm to decorate the truck.  Line-up is at 1.  Parade starts at 4.  Recommend bringing snacks to eat while you wait.  They do pass out hot chocolate and coffee.  The parade route is about 1.6 miles.  It moves fast so you need to decide if you want to walk or ride before we get started.  It is difficult to get on and off the truck once the parade starts.  Feel free to decorate yourself and your dog.  Since Missouri Ave is very long, you can give me a call to find out exactly where we are at 417-252-0349.

Dec. 14 - Christmas dinner - 1:00 at Ryan's restaurant in West Plains. Ryan's is on Hwy 160 West from the junction of 63 and 160 near Wal-Mart.  Please let me know if you plan on attending so we can let the restaurant know about how many to expect.  If  you decide at the last minute to come it shouldn't be a problem.  We reserved for 40 people.  We will be doing a "Dirty Santa" gift exchange if you wish to participate.  Suggested gift limit is $10.  There will be a short business meeting - election of officers & proposed by-law change.

Dec. 21 - Informal dog training starting at 1:00 at Galloway Park in West Plains.  Let me know if you are interested in attending.  Folks may be to busy with Christmas so close.

What is scheduled so far for January 2015.

Jan. 4 & 18 - Informal dog training starting at 1:00 pm at Galloway Park in West Plains.  More details closer to that time.

Jan. 27 - Kennel club meeting.  We hope to decided at this meeting what we will be doing in 2015.

Sunday Training Cancelled 11/16/14

The weather forecast sounds very iffy for tomorrow.  Even if we don't get much snow, it is usually not very safe to be on the roads with the first snow.

Hope to see you at the club meeting on Tuesday, the 25th. ~ Beth

Notes from the October Meeting

Arlene Myslinski was our guest speaker on Agility. She answered many questions.  She suggested a group called Canine Performance Events that we may want to contact to help us with our agility show.  They are interested in getting their events in the MO & AR area.

Christmas parades - West Plains is Dec. 13th at 5:00 pm.  We will have a trailer for folks to ride on.  All Pets is going to allow us to decorate the trailer behind their store.  I'll send out information on the time and theme as we get closer to the date.  If somebody would like to be in charge of coordinating the decorations let me know.  If you want to walk with your dog that is fine, just remember it goes at a fast pace.  Quick poll - Do we want to enter the float in the competition?  Let me know your opinion ASAP because it makes a difference on how much we pay to enter.  The prize is worth the extra money, but it does take a lot of work to be competitive.  Willow Springs parade is Dec. 6th starting at 10:00 am.  This is a slower paced parade that would be good for walking with your dog.  We will meet at Booster field at 9:00 am.   Let me know if you will be participating in this parade.

Monday night training practices: We decided to make a change to when training will take place.  There is concern about weather issues and driving at night in the winter.  We have decided to try for the winter having the practices on Sunday afternoons starting at 2:00.  For Nov. we will do the 2nd and 3rd Sunday (because I forgot to get anything out earlier).  The rest of the winter we will go back to the 1st and 3rd Sunday.  We will meet at Galloway Park.  If somebody wants to check on other indoor locations go ahead.  Let me know what you find out.

Dec. meeting/dinner - We decided to go to either Ryans & Coltons.  Each place has advantages and disadvantages.  We decided on Dec. 14th. if it is available.  Mandy will get back to us on availability.

Haunting in the Hallow Update

For those of you who are going to help at Haunting in the Hollow Oct 18th.  The event runs from 2-6.  They want us to be set up by 1:30.  If you can help set up, please meet me there in the parking lot around 12.  We need to carry stuff a fair distance.  We'll try to hook-up with the guy with the UTV to help us move things close.

We are going to do an obedience demonstration or do the drill team, depending on who shows up, at 3:00.  The doggie costume contest will be at 5:00.  Both activities will take place at our booth.  We will do agility demonstrations through out the day.

Feel free to dress up yourself and your dog if you like.  If you can't stay for the whole time, if you can make it for a few hours that would be great.  We usually stay pretty busy at the booth.

Hope to see you Saturday, Beth.
